# Release Details

**Product**: Emails/Content Management

**Release Date**: 7/14/2025

**Summary: **A new feature that opens email content links directly in the mobile app when accessed on a mobile device, creating a faster and more seamless user experience.

# Overview

> ⚠️ In order to benefit from this feature, **and avoid any impacts to existing dynamic links**, users must be on the latest iOS/Android mobile app v11.0.0.

## Smart Email Links

### Background

Previously, when users opened content links in email on a mobile device (e.g. Events, News, Building Info posts) the content would load in a mobile web browser even if the user had the mobile app installed. This created friction in the user journey, such as:

- Being prompted to log in again via the browser, disrupting access to the content
- A less seamless experience compared to the native app interface
- Reduced traffic and engagement in the mobile app, especially when the mobile app is the priority for some customers

These limitations made it harder to deliver a smooth and engaging experience and discouraged greater mobile app usage.

Opening content links directly in the mobile app will help streamline access, improve session continuity and increase overall engagement.

### Landing Page

If an end user doesn’t have the mobile app installed, they will be taken to a branded web based landing page. The version for the Equiem app is shown below. It consists of the following brand elements:

- The app name (e.g. Equiem)
- The iOS or Android app icon (e.g. Equiem icon)
- The subtext `Get the full experience in the Equiem App` (for all other white label apps, “Equiem” will be substituted with the app name of the white label app)
- Two call to action buttons:
 - `GET THE APP` (or `OPEN IN THE APP` where applicable)
 - `CONTINUE IN WEB BROWSER` (note that this link can be disabled if you want to prioritise end users opening the content on the mobile app. Refer to [this section](#Disabling-the--'Continue-in-web-browser'-Link) for further details.)

> ℹ️ The above example is for iOS. The Android version uses the same brand elements and may look slightly different depending on how the mobile app is configured.

---

### User Journey

> ℹ️ The below examples depict the experience on an iOS device. The Android experience is almost identical.

##### When the Mobile App isn’t Installed

If an end user opens content from an email (the example below is an Event post) and they **don’t have** the mobile app installed, they will be directed to the branded landing page.

![App not installed.mov](media://825e7894-4a1a-451b-9d83-7409bac30772)

> 📝 There are two options for continuing to the content in the above scenario:
> 📝
> 📝 1. Installing the mobile app via the `GET THE APP` button. This will take the end user to the mobile app in the respective iOS/Android store where they can download it. If they continue to download the mobile app, once they’ve logged in, they will automatically be directed to the content opened in the email.
> 📝 2. Continue to view the content in a web browser via the `CONTINUE IN WEB BROWSER` button. If selected, and they have an active web session, they will automatically be directed to the content opened in the email as per the below example:
> 📝
> 📝 If they do not have an active web session, they will be required to log in, after which they will automatically be directed to the content opened in the email.

##### When the Mobile App is Installed

If an end user opens content from an email (the example below is an Event post) and they **do have** the mobile app installed, they will automatically be directed to the content opened in the email.

## Disabling the Smart Email Links Feature Entirely

> ℹ️ This feature can be disabled on a site-by-site basis. *It’s enabled by default for a site.*
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ If your white label app consists of multiple sites, it’s therefore possible to disable the feature for one or more sites but leave it enabled for the remainder.

> ⚠️ The feature can only be disabled by a member of the Equiem team. Please contact your Equiem representative for assistance.

We’ve built in the capability of disabling this feature in scenarios where you may not want to automatically direct end-users to the mobile app when opening email content via their mobile device. This can be helpful if your mobile app is yet to be launched or your site is in a transitional phase.

Disabling the feature can be done directly in Admin Panel. Navigate to the `MOBILE APP` tab of site settings and switch off `Enable dynamic links for content in emails`.

**Note:** this change can take up to 1 hour to come into effect.

## Default Browser Experience

> ℹ️ There are some minor differences in experience when using different browsers on iOS.

### iOS

The experience outlined in [this section](#When-the-Mobile-App-is-Installed), applies when the **default browser** on the mobile device is `Safari`. Other browsers don’t handle the dynamic link in the same way so if you utilise a different browser e.g. `Firefox` or `Chrome`, opening the content from the email will take you directly to the landing page instead of launching the mobile app automatically:

> 📝 There are two options for continuing to the content in the above scenario:
> 📝
> 📝 1. Selecting the `OPEN IN THE APP` button. This will open up the mobile app ***however*** it won’t automatically take the user to the content, they will still need to navigate to it. (In the instance that the mobile app isn’t installed yet, the button will be `GET THE APP` and take you to the iOS App store to download it.)
> 📝 2. Continue to view the content in a web browser via the `CONTINUE IN WEB BROWSER` button.

### Android

> ✅ The experience on Android isn’t impacted by the browser and will perform the same across different browsers.

## Impact of Not Being on the v11 Mobile App

### On Android

> 📝 Once v11.0.0 becomes available in the Google Play store, anyone using an older Android version will be prompted to update their existing app, this will ensure dynamic links continue to work as expected. The prompt will look similar to the below example but the details will match that of the Equiem, or White Label App equivalent.
> 📝
> 📝 ![image](media://ae8659ae-c73c-4c18-9386-c29c8ca219ee)

### On iOS

> ⚠️ We’re currently unable to force iOS users to update to the latest version. We would highly recommend sharing communications with your end-users that they should update to version 11.0.0 at their earliest convenience.

#### Dynamic Links Within the Mobile App

The impact of remaining on a version less than v11.0.0 is that dynamic links will no longer function the way they did before.

Previously, opening a dynamic link on the mobile app (either via a Quick Link, or within a piece of content e.g. News or Event post) would open the native content directly within the mobile app.

If you’re not on v11.0.0, opening the dynamic links will instead send the user to the web browser to view the piece of content. One of the two scenarios will occur:

- If the user doesn’t have an active web session for the particular site, they will be required to log in with their Equiem user credentials.
- If the user does have an active web session for the particular site, they will not be required to log in again and will be taken directly to the web content.
